John Rowe Staff Writer Published 7:00 AM EDT Sep 14, 2018 Staff writer John Rowe explores 10 burning questions in college football going into Week 3: How concerned is Rutgers about home crowds? Very concerned. The Scarlet Knights’ seven home games in 2017 averaged 39,749, an 11 percent drop, and sale of season tickets in the offseason decreased by more than that. A secondary ticket market is selling $3 tickets for next week’s game against Buffalo. Ohio State’s 16-year streak of crowds of 100,000 or more was snapped last week when 93,057 showed up to see the Buckeyes have their way with Rutgers. Has Rutgers gained ground in Big Ten recruiting battles? Not really. By many accounts, Rutgers is signing more three star players, compared to the four and five star players Penn State, Ohio State and others have signed. Antonio Alfano of Colonia, a defensive tackle who’s the consensus No. 1 player in the state, has opted for Alabama over the Big Ten schools and others.
