Hamilton’s new development officer aims to get kids into playing rugby

Steven Meenagh says his job at Hamilton Rugby Club is simple: to get kids interested in playing the sport, and cultivate the rugby culture that exists within the town. As development officer at Laigh Bent, Steven, 25, is responsible for making sure that every primary school-age pupil in Hamilton is able to access enjoyable rugby, get teachers involved as much as possible and oversee the coaching network that creates a pathway for kids to work their way up to the 1st XV. “My job covers quite a wide area within the club, especially now that it is a club development officer role. “It covers everything from promoting  and recruiting players from primary level right through to secondary.
