Road safety campaigners have called for urgent safety measures and major improvements to the A38. The Safe38 campaign is calling for dualling works to be implemented as soon as possible after a series of reports noted the appalling litany of fatal and serious incidents along the notorious trunk road which runs through Devon and Cornwall. The community group was set up to represent the views and interests of the local communities surrounding the A38 from Saltash to Bodmin and to ensure the road is made safer for both residents who use the road on a regular basis as well as visitors to Cornwall. Campaigners noted how in October 2018 at a meeting of cross-party MPs, campaigners and councillors the then Transport Secretary Chris Grayling backed the need to implement urgent safety measures along the A38. Since then much work has gone on behind the scenes to develop a package of safety proposals but Safe38 say they are calling for these to be delivered urgently to reduce the risk of more lives being needlessly lost.
