House prices in Australia’s biggest cities are set to surge by more than $100,000 in 2020 – locking even more young people out of the property market. After a record plunge, Sydney and Melbourne real estate values are expected to rebound by double-digit figures next year. Should the forecasts come true, prices would surpass the peaks reached in 2017 before a crackdown on investor loans caused values to tumble – sparking an even bigger downturn than the 1980s.
