Don’t Worry About Organizing Your Books

February 21, 2019 by lifehacker Leave a Comment

At Brooklyn’s Books Are Magic, as at most bookstores, the books are organized sensibly: fiction sorted by author’s name; non-fiction under various categories, with books of local interest on their own display; kids’ books sorted by age group and author; new books face-up on the front tables; a wall of cookbooks; a thin shelf of paperback series like 33 1/3. Meanwhile, the people who work at Books Are Magic have their own schemes—or lack of schemes—for organizing their books at home. (The word “mudslide” comes up.) We talked to the staff of Books Are Magic about how they get their books, where they keep them, and how (and if) they get rid of them. Their answers might make you feel better about your own chaotic collection, or proud of your well-sorted one. … [Read more...] about Don’t Worry About Organizing Your Books

Jussie Smollett Arrested, Bail Hearing Scheduled

February 21, 2019 by thegrapevine Leave a Comment

This is a mess. Less than a month since news surfaced of Jussie Smollett’s alleged homophobic and racist attack on January 29, things have spiraled into an unexpected circus. Chicago Police Department spokesman Anthony Guglielmi has confirmed Smollett was arrested and is currently in custody, Deadline reports. A bail hearing will be scheduled for Thursday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. By Wednesday evening, Guglielmi confirmed the 36-year-old actor was charged with disorderly conduct and filing a false police report. Smollett’s legal team released a statement on behalf of their client, noting they planned to “conduct a thorough investigation and to mount an aggressive defense.” On Wednesday morning, a 20th Century Fox Television and Fox Entertainment provided an official statement to The Root: Jussie Smollett continues to be a consummate professional on set and as we have previously stated, he is not being written out of the show. However, that evening, a source … [Read more...] about Jussie Smollett Arrested, Bail Hearing Scheduled

It’s Thursday, the day universally accepted to be Lloyd Day. So, enjoy this Lloyd 600 being driven by a person who looks like the hard-boiled newspaperman or detective from one of those “serious” comics like Rex Morgan, MD or maybe Mary Worth or something. Do those even still exist? Holy shit, they do. Who is reading these? Didn’t you have to start reading in 1940 to know what the hell is going on? … [Read more...] about It’s Thursday, the day universally accepted to be Lloyd Day. Michael Cohen Is Going to Testify Publicly Next Week

February 21, 2019 by theslot Leave a Comment

Former Trump lawyer and fixer Michael Cohen is going to testify before Congress on an array of topics next Wednesday. Originally scheduled for earlier this month, Cohen’s testimony was pushed back after Cohen said he’d been threatened by the president and his attorney, Rudy Giuliani. Now that the date is set, Cohen will have the opportunity to share what exactly he was up to while working as Trump’s consigliere, antics that included illegally paying hush money to two women with whom the president allegedly had affairs. “I am pleased to announce that Michael Cohen’s public testimony before the Oversight Committee is back on, despite efforts by some to intimidate his family members and prevent him from appearing,” Representative Elijah Cummings, a Maryland Democrat chairs the House Oversight and Reform Committee, said in a statement. After he testifies publicly, Cohen will appear in a closed session before the House intelligence committee. … [Read more...] about Michael Cohen Is Going to Testify Publicly Next Week

CNN to Dems: We’ll Keep Our New GOP Hire Away From Your Debates

February 21, 2019 by splinternews Leave a Comment

Sarah Isgur Flores, a former GOP operative and recently hired political editor at CNN, will not participate in any Democratic primary debates the network will host in the coming months, according to The Daily Beast. This announcement comes after a firestorm of criticism from political and media figures, including journalists inside CNN, over the network’s hiring of Isgur to help produce coverage of the 2020 election. Isgur has spent her career working for GOP politicians like Jeff Sessions and Ted Cruz. She has never held a job in journalism before. The reaction inside the DNC to the hiring was apparently one of “disbelief.” “[Chairman] Tom Perez and the DNC expressed to CNN that they have serious concerns with the hire,” a DNC aide told The Daily Beast. “They continue to talk to the network about how this impacts 2020, and as of Wednesday, they got assurances that Flores would not be involved in debates.” In her most recent position as senior … [Read more...] about CNN to Dems: We’ll Keep Our New GOP Hire Away From Your Debates
