Android tablets have fallen far behind the iPad in terms of support and app availability — Google hasn’t even released a tablet since 2015. That hasn’t stopped Samsung from rolling out the occasional Android-powered slate. The super-premium Tab S4 arrived last year, and now Samsung has a new midrange tablet: the $400 Galaxy Tab S5e. It’s not as fast, but it is impressively thin and light. The Tab S5e is almost identical to the Tab S4 with a 10.5-inch 2560×1600 OLED. Samsung is the only manufacturer making tablets with OLEDs, and they look fantastic. However, the Tab S5e won’t work with the company’s S Pen stylus, which is bundled with the Tab S4. Even if you buy an S Pen separately, the Tab S5e lacks a digitizer to enable the pen. Samsung also talks up the tablet’s speakers — there are four of them with support for Dolby Atmos. It managed to cram … [Read more...] about Samsung Won’t Give Up on Android Tablets, Announces the Galaxy Tab S5e

Phone makers aren’t even trying to keep their secrets secret anymore
The Samsung Galaxy S10 will be launched at Samsung’s February 20th event this year, and the first preorders will be delivered by March 8th. I can tell you these dates straight up, without any hedging or caveating, because they’re official, courtesy of Samsung’s newly published reservation page for the new phone. On that page, the company throws up a white flag of resignation, admitting that “we know you know what is coming.” Who is Samsung capitulating to? Industrious leakers like evleaks and Roland Quandt, who, year after year, preempt flagship phone announcements with detailed images and specs of the devices to come. A few days after Samsung’s launch, at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, LG will reveal the G8 ThinQ. Yes, its name is also already official, along with a few specs: a Crystal Sound OLED display (that means the phone vibrates the screen to use it as a speaker), a quad-DAC audio system (which necessarily means a headphone jack, yay), … [Read more...] about Phone makers aren’t even trying to keep their secrets secret anymore

Google has been doing battle with European regulators for years, a struggle which last year resulted in a record antitrust fine of €4.34 billion in the EU. Now, Google might be looking at another major regulatory headache. Reports indicate that India’s antitrust regulators are beginning an investigation of Google, and Android is once again the target of the probe. Sources claim that India’s Competition Commission of India (CCI) started investigating Google’s Android licensing practices about six months ago. That means the process is still in the very early stages. The EU investigation didn’t become public until much later. Google executives have reportedly met with Indian regulators to discuss the issue, which stems from complaints made by individuals. In the EU, Google caught heat for the restrictions placed on device makers that licensed its Android apps. While Android … [Read more...] about Google May Face Another Android Antitrust Fine in India
WhatsApp on iOS and Android will soon get a sleeker Settings menu
WhatsApp will soon get a sleeker look, judging by the app’s recent beta update. According to Android Police, WhatsApp has updated its ‘Settings’ page to feature new icons, eliminate line separators as well as reorganize several menu items. The biggest change comes with ‘data and storage usage’ section, which now tells users said information without them having to tap into another menu. The ‘Network usage’ has received a visual revamp as well, outlining the data used by the user through bars and enlarging numbers. It’s likely we’ll see these changes filter out in an upcoming update of WhatsApp. Image Credits: Android Police Source: Android Police … [Read more...] about WhatsApp on iOS and Android will soon get a sleeker Settings menu
