Canon RF 600mm and 800mm f/11: are these fixed-aperture telephotos worth it?

Super telephoto primes have always been specialty lenses. Unless you were regularly shooting sports or wildlife, it was virtually impossible to justify the cost. Of course, a smaller sensor size makes it easier to get to the super telephoto focal lengths – essentially anything longer than 300mm – but even these lenses can still be quite expensive, especially the faster primes.Take for example Sony’s 400mm f/2.8 GM OSS for the FE mount – this excellent lens costs just shy of $12,000 /  £10,500 / AU$19,500 and weighs in at a little under 3kg. Following closely behind is Nikon’s monster F-mount AF-S 600mm f/4.0G ED VR, which will set you back $12,299 / £12,599 / AU$15,999, while Canon’s rival EF-mount 600mm f/4.0L IS III USM is going to cost you even more. Of course, if you need to go longer, 800mm primes are going to be even more expensive and just as heavy, if not heavier. However, Canon’s new RF 600mm f/11 IS STM and 800mm f/11 IS … [Read more...] about Canon RF 600mm and 800mm f/11: are these fixed-aperture telephotos worth it?

This new upcoming feature will ‘change’ WhatsApp Groups forever

WhatsApp group tend to be quite irritating sometimes with all participants responding at the same time. Also, WhatsApp groups are proven to be a potential tool to spread rumours and fake news among a large number of users. In order to tackle this, WhatsApp is reportedly rolling out a "Restrict Group" feature for its iOS, Android and Windows Phone apps. This feature will only allow WhatsApp group admins to send messages in the group. While all group members will be able to see these messages, only admins will be allowed to respond to these texts. Other group members can only read them. The ‘Restrict Group’ feature will also prevent non-admin participants from sending photographs, videos, GIFs, documents or voice messages if the group admin or admins doesn’t allow them. The feature is said to be available in WhatsApp Android version 2.18.132 and above. WhatsApp users will soon be getting several new features. WhatsApp director Mubarik Imam announced this at the recently-concluded … [Read more...] about This new upcoming feature will ‘change’ WhatsApp Groups forever

WhatsApp is getting several new features

WhatsApp users, you will soon be getting several new features. And this time the news does not come via a leak or a report but directly from the company. WhatsApp director Mubarik Imam announced the features at the ongoing F8 conference. According to Imam, the features include stickers and group video calling. She also said that the app may also soon get some of the features of its business app, WhatsApp Business. Imam was talking at the company's annual developers conference F8. Imam, however, did not disclose any details about the group-video calling feature. This includes any information about how it will work or the number of participants. The video example she showed had four participants engaged in a video chat. Imam also said that Facebook-owbed WhatsApp now has over 450 million daily users. She further added that over 2 billion minutes of video and audio calls are made through the instant messaging app every day. As for stickers, she said the platform will … [Read more...] about WhatsApp is getting several new features

Snapchat adds world lenses to further its push into augmented reality

Snapchat today is rolling out world lenses, a new twist on its popular face filters that continues the company’s exploration of augmented reality. Starting today, tapping the camera screen while using the rear-facing camera will bring up new 3D lenses. A cloud, a rainbow, flowers, and a floating “OMG” are part of the initial lineup, which will change daily, the company said. After selecting your lens, you can move it around the screen with your finger before taking a photo or video. Once you’ve placed it, the app behaves as if the object exists in the real world: walk closer to it and it gets bigger. In this it’s different from Snapchat’s 3D stickers, which are flat objects that you pin after capturing your image. The timing of today’s news is shady, and I mean that as a compliment: it comes on the first day of Facebook’s F8 developer conference. Facebook has, of course, spent the past year gradually importing as many Snapchat features as possible into its suite of apps. … [Read more...] about Snapchat adds world lenses to further its push into augmented reality
