After big hack of US government, Biden enlists ‘world class’ cybersecurity team

January 23, 2021 by www.gadgetsnow.com

WASHINGTON/SAN FRANCISCO : President Joe Biden is hiring a group of national security veterans with deep cyber expertise, drawing praise from former defense officials and investigators as the US government works to recover from one of the biggest hacks of its agencies attributed to Russian spies. "It is great to see the priority that the new administration is giving to cyber," said Suzanne Spaulding, director of the Defending Democratic Institutions project at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. Cybersecurity was demoted as a policy field under the Trump administration. It discontinued the Cybersecurity Coordinator position at the White House, shrunk the State Department's cyber diplomacy wing, and fired federal cybersecurity leader Chris Krebs in the aftermath of Donald Trump's Nov. 3 election defeat. Disclosed in December, the hack struck eight federal agencies and numerous companies, including software provider SolarWinds Corp. US intelligence agencies publicly … [Read more...] about After big hack of US government, Biden enlists ‘world class’ cybersecurity team

What happens when love meets political beliefs on dating apps

January 23, 2021 by www.gadgetsnow.com

Clashing political ideologies is fast becoming one of the top dealbreakers for urban Indian singles on dating apps, say dating and matchmaking experts. Gen Z and millennial women are driving this trend both in India and around the world as most of them place politics of their potential match right after aspects like their thoughts on feminism and overall personality while deciding whom to date. According to OkCupid’s survey of a million users on the dating app in India, 29% of women prefer not to date someone with radical-left or radical-right politics as against 25% men. Since women's issues have been front and centre the world over of late, women, especially millennials, have been the most vocal about their political views, observes Julie Spira, an online dating expert from Los Angeles. “It’s not a priority as you’re going to have a lot of differences,” says Swetha Priyadharshini from Chennai. “But with the current political scenario in India, … [Read more...] about What happens when love meets political beliefs on dating apps

Microsoft risks a year of goodwill with its Xbox Live price hike

January 22, 2021 by www.theverge.com

Xbox Game Pass has been praised widely, but Microsoft is now clearly trying to aggressively move its existing Xbox Live Gold player base over to the service. Microsoft is allowing Xbox Live Gold subscribers to switch to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate (usually $14.99 per month) and convert the amount of time in months or years into Ultimate subscriptions. That’s a good initial deal for Xbox Live Gold subscribers, but the end goal is clearly for Microsoft to earn more revenue per Xbox user in the future once they’re hooked to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and everything it offers. … [Read more...] about Microsoft risks a year of goodwill with its Xbox Live price hike
