The New York-Amazon Deal Might Actually Be Going Up In Flames
It’s the end of a rough-and-tumble week, and in at least one aspect of his life and business, Amazon’s billionaire founder Jeff Bezos might be calling it quits. The Washington Post (also owned by Bezos, lol) reported Friday that Amazon is “reconsidering” its plan to establish a second headquarters in New York City, after local politicians and activists have essentially crapped all over the idea of giving the richest man in the world billions of dollars in subsidies and carte blanche to uproot an entire neighborhood of Queens. And it demonstrated the ability of the Democrat-led State Legislature to call into question the governor’s control over the kinds of state … [Read more...] about Amazon Deal Meets New Resistance as Cuomo and N.Y. New York senators ominously quiet after Amazon deal
After months of speculation, Amazon announced yesterday that it will divvy up its second headquarters between New York City and Northern Virginia. Strangely, both New York senators have been silent on the deal. Just moments after the announcement, Virginia Sens. Mark Warner and Tim Kaine blasted off statements welcoming the HQ2 headquarters to their state, touting the economic activity it would bring. “As a former Governor, now Senator, but also as a former technology executive, I’m really excited about the potential Amazon offers not only to Northern Virginia but the whole capital region and the entire Commonwealth,” Sen. Warner said. “I’m thrilled that our skilled workforce helped persuade Amazon to bring a major new headquarters and its tens of thousands of jobs to Virginia,” Kaine said. But New York’s two senators, Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, haven’t said anything. They’ve released no public statements, … [Read more...] about New York senators ominously quiet after Amazon deal
