Months of social distancing to slow the spread of COVID-19 have kept many people from getting regular haircuts. But even the most overgrown stay-at-home hair can't compare with the plight of a merino sheep in Australia wearing a whopping 78 lbs. (35 kilograms) of overgrown, matted fleece. Domesticated sheep usually undergo annual shearings to keep their coats in check. However, this particular ram, nicknamed Baarack, was roaming wild in a state forest in Victoria, Australia. He hadn't been shorn in years, and his fleece had grown into a dense, gargantuan mass by the time he was captured and brought to Edgar's Mission Farm Sanctuary for rescued farm animals in Lancefield, Victoria, a representative of the nonprofit told Live Science in an email. There, Baarack was finally shorn of his heavy, woolly burden, which weighed about as much as a 10-year-old child. Under the pounds of matted wool — stained with dirt, studded with twigs and crawling with insects — "was not Australia's … [Read more...] about Overgrown sheep ‘Baarack’ gets epic quarantine haircut, loses 78 lbs. of matted wool

How NVIDIA and NetApp Simplify and Speed AI Deployments for Businesses
Many business leaders know their company’s future is intertwined with the successful adoption of AI, but struggle with how to operationalize the technology at scale. Transitioning from experimentation into business-impacting models deployed in production can be a real challenge. NetApp and NVIDIA are making it simple for enterprises to deploy AI fast, with new ONTAP AI integrated solutions that come in pre-configured sizes and are pre-tested and optimized for the scale of AI resources a business might need. It’s the simplified model of converged infrastructure now applied to AI. More so than talent or even budget, the top inhibitor to deploying AI scale is often concerns around platforms. For those in this infrastructure dilemma, common challenges include: The complexity of designing AI infrastructure , including optimizing the balance of compute, storage and networking in support of the unique demands of data analytics, model training and production model-serving. … [Read more...] about How NVIDIA and NetApp Simplify and Speed AI Deployments for Businesses
Low-code platforms enable apps to be developed quickly, simply
The pandemic accelerated digital transformation plans of many companies. And that in turn has led to a more rapid adoption of what are called low-code – and no-code – development platforms. Low-code development lets users build enterprise applications with minimal coding. You can drag and drop visual blocks of existing code into a workflow to create applications. While low-code requires some programming skills, no-code platforms can be used by even those who know no programming language. The interfaces and visual blocks tend to be intuitive, making application development simpler and faster than the traditional ways. “This trend (low-code development) was very active in automating the process of developing software before the pandemic. And it's only been accelerated since the pandemic started,” says Mark Weaser, vice president - Asia Pacific at OutSystems. He says it provides value quickly and on a continuous basis. “And it’s unlike the traditional projects that require time, a … [Read more...] about Low-code platforms enable apps to be developed quickly, simply
