The French had less confidence in the safety of vaccines than the residents of 66 other countries recently surveyed by researchers. A team lead by anthropologist Heidi Larson of the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine conducted what it contends is “the largest survey on confidence in immunization to date,” interviewing more than 65,000 people. As the researchers report online in EBioMedicine today , 41% of respondents in France disagreed with the assertion that vaccines are safe. On average, just 12% of respondents in other nations disagreed with this statement. “I didn’t expect France to be as negative as it was,” says Larson, who runs The Vaccine Confidence Project, a nonprofit that monitors public concerns about immunization. At the other end of the scale, only 0.2% of the respondents in Bangladesh had similar safety misgivings. US charges three North Koreans in $1.3 billion hacking spree
The United States has charged three North Korean computer programmers with a massive hacking spree aimed at stealing more than $1.3 billion in money and cryptocurrency , affecting companies from banks to Hollywood movie studios, the Department of Justice said. The indictment alleges that Jon Chang Hyok, 31, Kim Il, 27, and Park Jin Hyok, 36, stole money while working for North Korea's military intelligence services. Park had previously been charged in a complaint unsealed in 2018. The Justice Department said the hackers were responsible for a wide range of criminal activity and high-profile intrusions, including a retaliatory 2014 attack on Sony Pictures Entertainment for producing "The Interview" movie, which depicted the assassination of North Korea's leader. Xiaomi may launch Google’s next Android One smartphone in India
NEW DELHI: The Chinese smartphone brand Xiaomi appears to be planning new strategy for markets like India. The company is reportedly teaming up with Google in India to launch the company's next Android One smartphone. For those unaware, Google launched its Android One phones first time in the year 2014. The aim is to bring pure Android UI and timely updates to budget smartphones in the developing markets. The OS debuted in India later that year with smartphones made by some local manufacturers such as Micromax, Spice and Karbonn. It later expanded to Nepal, Pakistan, Indonesia, Bangladesh and other such countries. Xiaomi has so far not teamed up with Google for Android One smartphones before. Lava to tap sub-10k market, focus on R&D to take on competition
SHENZHEN: Homegrown handset maker Lava plans to focus on sub-Rs 10,000 mobile phones with 6-7 models in its portfolio to capture a bigger pie of the market in this price segment. "We want to focus and dominate in the sub Rs 10,000 mobile phones segment with a portfolio of 6-7 models. Our strategy is to have limited number of products and drive volumes. With our R&D centre in Shenzhen in China, we are working hard to enhance customer experience," Lava International Head Smartphones Deepak Mahajan told PTI. The company, which has presence in 11 countries, offers 8-9 feature phones and 6-7 smartphones. Lava's current market share, in the under Rs 10,000 price segment, is around 11%. Spotify to launch in 80 new markets across Asia, Africa, Caribbean, Latin America
Spotify said Monday it will expand significantly to more than 80 new markets across Asia, Africa, the Caribbean, Latin America and Europe over the next few days, a rollout that would expand its availability to more than a billion people around the world. The company will also make Spotify available in 36 new languages, including Romanian, Hindi and Swahili, so it supports more than 60 languages total. It is Spotify's broadest expansion to date, bringing the service to a total of more than 180 markets. All the new markets are listed at the end of this article.
