Audio glasses, which have integrated micro speakers and a Bluetooth connection, are proliferating. Bose is leading the way with its Frames audio sunglasses . Amazon is also in the game with its Echo Frames , now on their second generation. A host of other companies, many of which are no-name Chinese manufacturers, have released audio glasses in recent months. Some are geared toward everyday use, allowing you to forego headphones and stealthily listen to audio on the go, while others are designed for runners and bikers who want to leave their ears open to the world for safety reasons. The truth is, most audio sunglasses don't sound good and many sound downright bad, including and especially those that use bone-conduction technology instead of traditional audio drivers. The glasses' tiny embedded speakers fire audio into your ears and that audio tends to be lacking in the bass and clarity department. The sound is typically on par with what a pair of free earbuds you'd get on a … [Read more...] about Best audio glasses and sunglasses for 2021

The best open wireless earbuds that aren’t AirPods
So-called "open" earbuds like the standard Apple Airpods have their pluses and minuses. On the plus side, they tend to slip easily into your ear -- you don't have to worry about getting a tight seal from a silicon tip -- and their design offers a comfortable fit. On the downside, they may not fit some ears securely, they let sound in and they tend to have weaker bass due to their non-noise-isolating design. But if you're a runner or biker who wants to hear the outside world or just someone who doesn't like having an ear tip jammed into your ear canal, sealing it off, an open-style bud is an ideal choice. Apple's AirPods a certainly an option -- they cost around $130 with the standard charging case -- but they don't fit everybody's ears securely and there are plenty of good alternatives, some of them cheaper. Here's a look at the top open-style buds. I'll update this list as I test more worthy candidates. In a new report released Thursday, the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) said the Department of Defense fails to communicate clear cybersecurity guidelines to contractors tasked with building systems for its weapons programs. And out of the four military service branches, only the Air Force has a record of issuing … [Read more...] about GAO report finds DOD’s weapons programs lack clear cybersecurity guidelines
Hearing aids: How they work and which type is best for you
Hearing aids are small electronic devices that a person wears in or behind their ears. These devices amplify ambient sound and allow people with mild to severe hearing loss to hear the sounds around them. They do not restore a person's hearing, but rather increase the volume of environmental sounds. How do hearing aids work? Most modern hearing aids are digital. Digital hearing aids consist of three parts, according to Johns Hopkins : —a microphone, to pick up sound waves and convert them into a digital signal; —an amplifier, to make specific sound frequencies louder; —a speaker, to convert the digital signal back into sound waves and transmit the louder sound down a person's ear canal. Who benefits from hearing aids? The World Health Organization estimates that 1.5 billion people worldwide have some degree of hearing loss, and that this number will rise to 2.5 billion by 2050. There are three primary types of hearing loss, depending on which part of the … [Read more...] about Hearing aids: How they work and which type is best for you
