Senior White House adviser and shitty businessman Jared Kushner is the subject of a New York Times report that suggests he is exactly the kind of person you’d assume him to be: a witless and corrupt cretin desperately trying to use his elevated position in the White House to keep his failing real estate business from collapsing around him. The story concerns various meetings Kushner has had at the White House with businessmen who just happened to loan him huge amounts of money shortly after those meetings. Sports fans may recognize the name of one of the businessmen who engaged in this very corrupt-seeming dance with Kushner: Early last year, a private equity billionaire started paying regular visits to the White House. Joshua Harris, a founder of Apollo Global Management, was advising Trump administration officials on infrastructure policy. During that period, he met on multiple occasions with Jared Kushner, President Trump’s son-in-law and senior adviser, said three … [Read more...] about Report: Sixers Co-Owner Did Some Shady Business With Jared Kushner
Shit just got real, ladies and gentlemen. We have been waiting to see where Robert Mueller’s probe was going to go as far as Donald Trump was concerned, and now we know. The special counsel is now looking into Trump’s business activities prior to his candidacy for the U.S. presidency. CNN reports that Mueller’s investigators have been questioning witnesses about the timing of Trump’s bid for the presidency, what compromising information the Russians may have on him, and why a deal to brand a Trump Tower in Moscow fell through. Is or was Trump the Manchurian Candidate? It appears that is what Mueller and his team want to know. Sources have told CNN that it is unclear whether or not Mueller has concrete evidence that Trump engaged in any wrongdoing, but the special counsel is leaving no stone unturned. Investigators are reportedly particularly interested in when Trump actually decided to run for president. They are also looking into the allegations presented in … [Read more...] about Let the Probing Begin: Mueller is All Up in Trump’s Russian Business Now
STAT | $295 million - Estimated revenue generated by Nintendo’s mobile free-to-play game Fire Emblem Heroes in its first year, almost five times the amount made by Super Mario Run. QUOTE | “Honestly, we expected just to fund our Kickstarter, sell 250 to 300 carts.” - Piko Interactive founder Eli Galindo talks about the campaign to produce cartridges of the never-released Nintendo 64 port of the poorly received PlayStation 3D platformer 40 Winks. As of this writing, it is closing in on 1,200 backers and has more than quadrupled its funding target. QUOTE | “People already think we’re up to artificial general intelligence and robots taking over humanity. I don’t think that’s the right question. The right questions today are, ‘What are companies doing with my data? What’s the real usage of what I’m leaving online? How are those companies using that to create AI targeted ads, or to provide that to other companies?’” - … [Read more...] about This Week In The Business: Move Over, Mario!
Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials have hand-delivered audit notices to some 120 businesses in Southern California, the Wall Street Journal reported Friday, requiring them to “show the government detailed records of who works there and evidence they are authorized to work.” The news came just two days after news broke of an immigration detention operation that began last Wednesday—also in Southern California—and resulted in the arrest of over 200 immigrants. (Though the agency said it initially targeted 400.) Seventy-seven other businesses across the region were audited earlier this year, along with 100 7-Eleven convenience stores nationally. From the Journal: ICE officials said notices were served at businesses in varying industries and that no specific industry was targeted. By law, the businesses have three days to compile their records but ICE said many businesses issued audit notices this week were given as much as a week to comply with the … [Read more...] about ICE Is Combing Through Southern California Businesses Looking for Undocumented Immigrants
Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents are continuing the business of cracking down on undocumented immigrant workers and the employers that hire them. The latest targets of federal immigration audits are businesses in the Los Angeles area. The Los Angeles Times reports that after a five-day operation that ended Thursday, ICE issued audit notices to more than 120 businesses. The audits are said to have dual purposes: ICE wants to punish employers and employees who are breaking immigration rules, as well as discourage others from entering the country unlawfully. ICE spokeswoman Dani Bennett told the Times: “It’s a deterrent to somebody who is thinking about crossing the border, paying a smuggler and taking that perilous journey. If there isn’t that pull factor or perceived easy employment on the other side, there isn’t that incentive to cross in the first place.” The Trump administration “has vowed to crack down hard on illegal … [Read more...] about ICE Raids Continue: Agents Target Southern California Businesses
