Android XII For big phones, this one is a must-have feature. Jerry Hildenbrand 14 Apr 2021 2 Source: Andrew Myrick / Android Central If you are a lover of big beautiful phones, you probably have seen a one-handed mode in the settings or have even used it — unless you have something like the Pixel 4a 5G or the Pixel 4 XL . That's because Google hasn't developed a one-handed mode as part of Android. Until we see Android 12 , that is. Google needs a one size fits all solution for every phone. Manufacturers like Samsung built a one-handed mode for its Ultra sized phones , and most companies that make the other best Android phones have done the same. These companies know that it's a feature we'll use because most people can't reach the whole way across a ginormous display to tap something. The only issue with this is that each and every phone maker does it a little differently. That's because it's up to Google to build a proper one-handed … [Read more...] about Android 12 features we love: A proper one-handed mode

How some COVID vaccines may cause blood clots — and what scientists are doing about it
In the global race for a coronavirus vaccine, one group leaped ahead early. The team from Oxford University and British-Swedish biotech firm AstraZeneca first began injecting doses of their vaccine, now named Vaxzevria, into patients in April 2020. The vaccine, which uses a reprogrammed chimpanzee virus, has been shown in large clinical trials to be safe and effective at preventing serious illness and death. It's now approved for use or emergency use in almost 100 countries and forms the backbone of the World Health Organization's COVAX initiative , which aims to provide equitable access to vaccines across the globe, opening up vaccine rollouts in dozens of low-income countries. But it's suffered a number of setbacks. Miscommunications with the US Food and Drug Administration and dosing mistakes in clinical trials have eroded confidence in the shot, particularly in the US, where it's yet to be approved for use. Its latest setback may be the biggest of them all. A spate of … [Read more...] about How some COVID vaccines may cause blood clots — and what scientists are doing about it

This pterosaur supported its giant neck with bones built like bicycle wheels
By Rodrigo Pérez Ortega Apr. 14, 2021 , 11:00 AM About 100 million years ago, gigantic flying reptiles with necks longer than those of giraffes cruised the skies of modern-day Morocco. Scientists think this kind of pterosaur, with its large jaw and slim neck, preyed on fish, small mammals, and even baby dinosaurs. But how their necks didn’t snap as they carried their prey has long been a mystery. Now, a new study shows the bones inside had an intricate spokelike structure that made them strong and stable, but light enough for flight. Azhdarchid pterosaurs (named after a dragonlike creature in Persian mythology) from Morocco are some of the largest flying animals that ever lived. With wingspans up to 8 meters and necks as long as 1.5 meters, scientists have always wondered how their unusual bodies allowed them to hunt, walk, and fly. “With size comes all kinds of complicated biological problems,” says Nizar Ibrahim, an anatomist and paleontologist at the University of … [Read more...] about This pterosaur supported its giant neck with bones built like bicycle wheels
