Best smart thermostat 2021: save energy and money when heating your home

The best smart thermostats can automate the heating and cooling of your home, to ensure it's at the temperature you want when you want it. Rather than using a schedule for when your home should be heated and cooled, smart thermostats give you more control by letting you adjust the temperature from your phone even if you’re not at home. No more returning home late to find you’ve been wasting energy as the heating has been running full blast all evening. Smart thermostats also let you change the temperature with your voice, and can work with other smart home gadgets, such as smart lights and smart plugs and switches , so when you walk through the door the lights are on, your favorite songs are playing and your home is at the perfect temperature. It's not just about home automation, smart thermostats can help save energy and potentially money too. Some internet-connected thermostats use AI to identify how long it takes your home to heat up or cool down, amending your schedule … [Read more...] about Best smart thermostat 2021: save energy and money when heating your home

Why the Google Nest Hub (2nd generation) isn’t suited to those who share a bed

Google’s newest smart display, the Google Nest Hub (2nd generation) , went on sale this week, and it’s the first smart display on the market that can track your sleep. The smart display includes Soli radar technology – already present in the Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 X L smartphones – to monitor your breathing and movement, while the built-in microphones and ambient light and temperature sensors will detect coughing, snoring plus light and temperature changes in your bedroom. All of this information is analyzed by the device to help you understand how much sleep you’re getting and what, if anything, is impacting its quality. But just how accurate is this sleep data when it’s captured by a device that isn’t attached to you, and is it the same as using one of the best smartwatches or best fitness trackers ? Following just over a week with the Google Nest Hub (2nd generation) I’m disappointed with the results, and feel that if you share a bed then it isn’t the best option. … [Read more...] about Why the Google Nest Hub (2nd generation) isn’t suited to those who share a bed

HBO’s The Nevers unleashes X-Men-esque fun from Joss Whedon

In 1896, something very strange happened. From alleyways to asylums, the people of Victorian London turned their faces to a gathering rumble of thunder -- and you'll never guess what happened next in The Nevers, a new show from Joss Whedon and HBO. The first six episodes of the historical fantasy series stream every week on HBO Max throughout April and May, with another six to follow later. Episode 1 opens with people in old-timey frocks wordlessly wandering about for several minutes, but hang in there: The proper fun soon starts as our Victorian-era heroines seek out a child who may be cursed by the devil. That leads to an acrobatic fight scene packed with luminescent hand grenades and weaponized parasols, setting the tone for an adventure full of kick-ass women taking on sinister baddies. Well, I never! CNET Culture Entertain your brain with the coolest news from streaming to superheroes, memes to video games. The strange storm over London has gifted young women … [Read more...] about HBO’s The Nevers unleashes X-Men-esque fun from Joss Whedon

Ranking Game of Thrones’ 8 seasons from worst to best

Ten years ago, on April 17, 2011 , we watched a small crew of men in black cloaks venture north of a magic wall. Grotesque ice monsters killed most of them, but one got away. Game of Thrones was a fixture in the lives of millions of viewers for much of the following decade. Then, two years year ago, we saw the series finally conclude -- in controversial fashion .
