The past year of graphics card reviews has been an exercise in dramatic asterisks, and for good reason. Nvidia and AMD have seen fit to ensure members of the press have access to new graphics cards ahead of their retail launches, which has placed us in a comfy position to praise each of their latest-gen offerings: good prices, tons of power. Then we see our comment sections explode with unsatisfied customers wondering how the heck to actually buy them . I've since softened my tune on these pre-launch previews. I say all of this up front about the Nvidia RTX 3060 , going on sale today, February 25 (at 12pm ET, if you're interested in entering the day-one sales fray) because it's the first Nvidia GPU I've tested in a while to make my cautious stance easier. The company has been on a tear with its RTX 3000-series of cards in terms of sheer consumer value, particularly compared to equivalent prior-gen cards (the $1,499 RTX 3090 notwithstanding), but the $329 RTX 3060 (not to be … [Read more...] about Nvidia RTX 3060 review: A fine $329 GPU, but ho-hum among the 3000 series

Greek ship carrying parts of the Parthenon is giving up more secrets
The latest expedition by divers to the wreck of the Mentor, which sank just off the island of Kythera (also spelled Kithira and Kythira) in 1802, has recovered several pieces of the ship's rigging, coins, the leather sole of a shoe, a metal buckle, a token for playing cards, two chess pieces, fragments of cooking utensils and other seemingly mundane objects. When it sank, the ship was carrying marble sculptures chipped from the badly damaged Parthenon in Athens — later known as the " Elgin Marbles or Parthenon Marbles. These spectacular sculptures — which depict Greek gods, heroes and animals — are now on display at the British Museum in London. Switching to Android: iOS 14 may look great, but Android launchers still put it to shame
Battle of the widgets Activating launchers, theme packs, and widgets felt as transformative as the world turning to color in Pleasantville . Michael L Hicks 25 Feb 2021 5 Source: Android Central As part of my Switching to Android journey, I'm documenting the differences between the two operating systems, exploring the Android features that you might take for granted, but that iOS users may find a compelling reason to switch sides. My first couple of days with Android 11 and One UI 3.1 underwhelmed me. I successfully transferred my compatible iOS apps over, and there they sat as plain little circles or rounded squares, crowded in on one another. In particular, my Pixel 3a icons looked insubstantial, the display so cramped that several app names ended in ellipses (i.e., Google P...). Bad aesthetics didn't exactly make me enthusiastic about the transition. Before iOS 14, iPhone users happily lived with the same aesthetics and similar UI for … [Read more...] about Switching to Android: iOS 14 may look great, but Android launchers still put it to shame
Would you buy a Galaxy Watch running Wear OS?
Change of pace Having a chat with the AC forums. Joe Maring 24 Feb 2021 7 Source: Hayato Huseman / Android Central 2021 could prove to be a pretty interesting year for smartwatches. A rumor from Samsung leaker Ice Universe has suggested that Samsung's next wearable will ditch the company's own Tizen operating system in favor of Google's Wear OS. A move like this would be massive for Android smartwatches. Wear OS certainly has the upper-hand when it comes to things like app support and its Google Assistant integration, but there are still plenty of things that Tizen continues to be better at. Some of our AC forum members recently shared their thoughts on this news, saying: bigsmoke79 02-19-2021 02:20 PM Just read the rumour that Samsung's next smartwatch is going to be running Android Wear OS! it's been tweeted by IceUniverse and reported on SamMobile! Hope this doesn't mean they ditch us Samsung Watch 3 owners and at least let … [Read more...] about Would you buy a Galaxy Watch running Wear OS?
