Vidya Laxman was born a few shades darker than most of her family members , an aberration that didn’t go unnoticed. But soon that skin tone paled in front of the smart, confident and sensitive woman that she metamorphosed into. Vidya, an army man’s daughter, says agility, ambiguity and chaos defined her childhood years. With the family constantly shifting base, Vidya had to switch nine schools in 12 years. The technology director at Tesco Bengaluru recalls how once all their belongings, which were being transported by truck from Bengaluru to Gwalior, got gutted in an accidental blaze. “I was in class 1 and a lot of life’s tangible memories got wiped out in that fire,” she says. Paramount Plus is the subscription streaming-video service set to replace CBS All Access , costing $10 a month ad-free when it launches Thursday in the US and 18 Latin American countries. Paramount Plus will include live news and sports as well as on-demand shows and movies, including originals -- all of which leaning into parent company ViacomCBS ' brands like CBS , MTV , BET , Comedy Central , Nickelodeon and Paramount Network, plus movies from the Paramount Pictures studio. But Paramount Plus won't have the one show most associated with the Paramount name: Yellowstone . The first three seasons of the cowboy drama are streaming exclusively on rival service Peacock . FCC approves $50 a month emergency broadband subsidies

The Federal Communications Commission on Thursday approved a plan to administer $3.2 billion in emergency relief to subsidize broadband for millions of poor Americans during the coronavirus pandemic. The four-member commission unanimously voted to approve rules to the program that will offer up to $50 a month to low-income households and up to $75 a month to households on Native American land for broadband service. The FCC will also provide a one-time discount to poor households of up to $100 to purchase a computer or tablet.
