Market intelligence firm International Data Corporation (IDC) writes that global semiconductor revenue in 2020 was up 10.8% YoY to $464 billion, despite the impact of Covid-19, and this year is going to be even better. With the chip shortage problem reaching its zenith, one might imagine the industry would suffer in 2021, but the opposite is true. Massive growth from consumer, computing, 5G, and automotive semiconductors, combined with unprecedented demand and the adoption of more expensive chips, mean revenue is predicted to grow 12.5% this year to $522 billion. Specific Media, a digital media company, has announced it has acquired Myspace, previously called MySpace but now stylized as My_____, from News Corporation. As part of the agreement, News Corporation will take a minority equity stake in Specific Media. Additional terms of the agreement were not disclosed. That being said, All Things Digital reports that the sale prices is $35 million and that News Corp.'s stake in Specific Media is less than five percent. Furthermore, the deal includes a halving of Myspace's staff of 400, as well as other cost cuts. Myspace CEO Mike Jones and other top staff will remain only for an interim period (about two months), to help with the transition. News Corp. is looking to sell the struggling social network Myspace, previously called MySpace but now stylized as My_____, for $100 million. That's less than 20 percent of what the company originally paid for the website. The sale is expected to draw bids from several investment firms and companies who may try to buy parts of Myspace or the whole company.
