The security research group for Azure Defender for IoT , dubbed Section 52, has found a batch of bad memory allocation operations in code used in Internet of Things and operational technology (OT) such as industrial control systems that could lead to malicious code execution. Given the trendy vulnerability name of BadAlloc, the vulnerabilities are related to not properly validating input, which leads to heap overflows, and can eventually end at code execution. "All of these vulnerabilities stem from the usage of vulnerable memory functions such as malloc, calloc, realloc, memalign, valloc, pvalloc, and more," the research team wrote in a blog post . The use of these functions gets problematic when passed external input that can cause an integer overflow or wraparound as values to the functions. "The concept is as follows: When sending this value, the returned outcome is a freshly allocated memory buffer," the team said. "While the size of the allocated memory remains … [Read more...] about Microsoft finds memory allocation holes in range of IoT and industrial technology

It's been repeatedly rumored that some models in the iPhone 13 range will have 120Hz screens, and now there's even more evidence that these high refresh rate displays are destined for the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max. According to a report by TheElec , the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max are set to feature LTPO AMOLED 120Hz displays that will be made exclusively by the Samsung Display division. As well as that, Samsung Electro-Mechanics is apparently set to supply the rigid flexible printed circuit boards (RFPCB) in the new iPhones. RFPCBs are more expensive than traditional FPCBs, and these are used to connect OLED screens to the main internal board. RFPCBs are rigid but can still be folded, which means more sophisticated designs can be implemented. In context: Spotify in the first quarter of 2021 added 11 million new monthly active users (MAUs) to its roster, pushing its total user count to 356 million and representing growth of 24 percent year over year. Growth has slowed a bit compared to what we saw last year during the pandemic, but that was largely to be expected given the circumstances. Spotify said it finished within its guidance range but admitted that the number was below their internal expectations. Meaningful contributions came from markets like the US, Russia, India and Mexico, while regions such as Latin America and Europe underperformed. Of those 356 million members, Spotify said 158 million are of the premium (paying) variety. The company added nearly four million paying subscribers in the quarter, near the top end of its guidance range, but still only an increase of about two percent compared to the previous quarter. Ad-supported MAUs, meanwhile, climbed four percent in the quarter to 208 million, … [Read more...] about Spotify added another 11 million users in Q1 2021
