Beer, wine and other alcoholic beverages have somewhat of a split personality in how they affect people's brains. At first, the drinks tend to make people feel super sleepy, but they then jolt those same people wide awake and make them jittery just a few hours later. What's behind this odd effect? The answer has to do with alcohol's powerful effects on the central nervous system, said A. Leslie Morrow, a professor of psychiatry and pharmacology at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. Alcohol enters the bloodstream quickly, usually within about 20 minutes of a person drinking it. The US hasn't had a new Register of Copyrights since 1994, when Marybeth Peters stepped into the job of top US copyright official. So when Peters stepped down at the end of 2010 and a search geared up for her replacement, interest was high. The new head of the Copyright Office would enter the job during a chaotic moment for copyright, facing challenges like P2P file-sharing, rising public interest in fair use, mass copyright lawsuits around the country, and a new set of bills in Congress that attempt to make choke off streaming and P2P piracy. No longer was copyright a sleepy domain for lawyers and a few publishers; it was now at the center of crucial Supreme Court battles over things like term extensions and services like Grokster. A young couple fights to hold its relationship together in the midst of pandemic, where a memory loss virus is robbing everyone of their memories in Little Fish, a new science fiction romantic drama from IFC Films. Directed by Chad Hartigan, this thoughtful, genuinely moving film explores themes of memory, self, and the power of shared experiences to forge strong bonds between us, all through the lens of an otherwise average, ordinary Everycouple.
