The internet is in mourning for one half of the famous Mario brothers after a new gaming trailer appeared to show Luigi meeting a tragic end. Luigi and his brother Mario burst onto the gaming scene in the early 1980s as two plumbers who team up to save Princess Peach from the evil Bowser. Since then then the Mario brothers have made many appearances in different gaming franchises and still remain as popular as ever. But the inseparable pair seem to have met their match after a Nintendo trailer released on Wednesday morning showed Luigi meeting his end at the hands of a ghostly Grim Reaper. The trailer for the upcoming Ninetendo game Smash Bros Ultimate - the latest in the successful series of crossover fighting games - starts off with a nod to Luigi's Mansion, the quirky game that let players hunt ghosts in a haunted house as Luigi. But Luigi soon comes into the path of a skeletal reaper who slices him with a huge scythe, killing him instantly. Luckily, a famous vampire hunter named … [Read more...] about Luigi dies in new Super Mario trailer

I thought that Super Smash Bros. for Wii U was pretty close to being the perfect Smash Bros. game. I wasn’t sure how Nintendo could improve it besides just adding more things like new characters and levels. And that’s part of the story for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for the Switch. But it’s more. Ultimate includes every character that’s ever been in the series — and some new fighters as well. I checked it out today this new entry in Nintendo’s crossover fighting franchise during a special Nintendo Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) event today in Los Angeles. I played almost a dozen matches. Playing with the new characters and stages was a blast, but even small adjustments to mechanics and the presentation could make this the best Smash Bros. yet. New characters and stages For my first match, I picked Ridley. I’ve wanted this Metroid villain in Smash for a long time. His debut does not disappoint. Other villains in the roster — … [Read more...] about Super Smash Bros. Ultimate hands-on — way more than a Smash 4 port
Of its 45-minute E3 2018 Direct, Nintendo spent about 30 of those minutes solely discussing Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which should tell you just how important the upcoming mascot fighter is for the Nintendo Switch. Sure there were some other cool Switch announcements like Dragon Ball FighterZ, Fortnite, Overcooked 2, Killer Queen Black, Super Mario Party, Daemon X Machina, and even the new Fire Emblem: Three Houses coming next year. But this was the Super Smash Bros. show. If you were expecting a bunch of big Switch announcements for 2018 and beyond, the sheer focus on Smash might have been disappointing. If you were also somehow expecting this to be an entirely new Smash game, you may have also been disappointed. But personally I nearly nearly died from hype, and it’s because Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is almost tailored-made for my specific video game dreams and hang-ups. Let me explain. For one thing, I just like fighting games. I love their variety and their expressive … [Read more...] about Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is Loss Aversion Therapy
Nintendo sure thinks so. Take that, The Avengers. The game is certainly a massive undertaking and a comprehensive Nintendo history lesson, including every playable character from past Super Smash Bros. versions. A handful of additions were announced this morning during Nintendo’s E3 kickoff event, including also-ran Super Mario princess, Daisy; new Pokemon; Splatoon’s Inkling and perennial Metroid baddie, Ridley. The company didn’t give specifics with regard to the number of playable characters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, but it’s definitely well into the dozens, with more being announced as we push toward the December 7 release date. It seems there’s still a lot to unpack, even beyond the 25 minutes of footage the company debuted this morning. “At E3, we’re showing how Nintendo Switch continues to redefine play, with the broadest range of games people can enjoy together anytime, anywhere,” said NOA President Reggie Fils-Aime … [Read more...] about Is Super Smash Bros.
